Paper Bats Wall Decor

It's spooky season, y'all!

I love Halloween. When I was little (like, really little) my favorite movies were Batman, Beetlejuice, and Edward Scissorhands. While those aren't necessarily horror movies, Tim Burton definitely plays with dark concepts - which obviously tie right in with Halloween themes. Anyway, even though it's not quite October yet, we've started decorating. Who knows what Halloween festivities will look like this year (2020, amiright?), so we figured we will celebrate as early as we want. The weather has gotten so mild and lovely out that we've been doing plenty of walks. Along the walk, we pass one house that has decorated for Halloween. And every time, our toddler loves it. So it got me wondering, how can I tie in Halloween on the inside of our home so we can enjoy it all the time, but in a way that doesn't result in spending a lot of money on decorations or taking up space and function of our home? Enter: paper bats!

This idea came on a whim and used only materials that I already had on hand. Here's what you'll need: Materials: - Pencil - Construction paper. I used black, but feel free to mix it up with some orange, purple, or any color you like! - Scissors

- Scotch Tape

- Blank Wall

Instructions:

Step 1: Fold construction paper in half. I folded in vertically (hot dog style) so I could get more bats out of each piece. If you want larger, fewer bats you could fold them horizontally. Step 2: Draw half of the bat. Starting from the fold, draw the outline of half of the bat. Here you can vary in size and style. I was able to fit about 4 bats on the page - two larger bats, one medium, and one small. Don't worry about making the bats look identical. Bats aren't identical in real life, but these will be symmetrical so it'll look clean.

Step 3: Cut out the bats. Once you've drawn as many bats as will fit on the page, begin to follow the outline with scissors. Because the page is folded, each bat will be symmetrical and will already have a fold to give them the 3D effect on the wall. Repeat this step as needed. I made 23 bats total.

Step 4: Attach the bats to the wall. Take a small piece of scotch tape, roll it inside on itself to create a double-sided effect. Stick it to the back of the bat, and then attach the bats in any order to the wall. And you're done!

Voila! This project was SUPER fast, and it completely transformed our living room. It also manages to make the space feel cohesive and put together. Who says holiday decor can't fit into your style? Not me! Let us know some of your favorite easy decorating ideas!👇 -K
